Master and Alternative Master in Secondary Education

The College of Education offers two master’s degree programs in each of seven secondary education fields listed below.

The Traditional Master’s in Secondary Education is for those who already hold a valid Class B Professional Educator Certificate. The Alternative Master’s in Secondary Education is available for those who have not earned an undergraduate education degree or teacher certification. 

Scholarships are also available for these programs through the Educator Advancement Program or the College of Education Incentive Program.

Courses are enhanced with a technology focus on the latest evidence-based teaching and learning strategies as well as a focus on assisting the candidate in developing his/her professional identity and professional practice as an educator.

Modality

This Traditional Masters in English Language Arts, History, Mathematics and the Alternative Masters degrees require students to meet on campus. Students in these courses enroll in a program to connect in a campus setting and to collaborate using a variety of technological and educational tools. Professors play an inspirational role in building relationships among teams and individuals in this setting. The criteria for many programs can only be met with In-Class coursework. Be sure to check with your advisor to understand the best route to take.
