The Kinesiology Department within the AUM College of Education offers graduate-level programs in Physical Education, Sport Management and Exercise Science. Courses are enhanced with a technology focus on the latest evidence-based teaching and learning strategies.
Choose between these options:
Physical Education: Choose from a Traditional Master’s degree preparing candidates to teach physical education in a P-12 setting, an Alternative Master’s degree (designed for students who have not earned an undergraduate education degree or teacher certification), or a Education Specialist (EdS), an online program preparing candidates to teach physical education in a P-12 setting. Candidates in all these programs must meet AUM and Alabama Department of Education teacher certification requirements.
Sport Management: A Traditional Master’s degree with teacher certification and without teacher certification are offered. Both programs prepare students to enter the professional and/or amateur sport arena, to enhance their content knowledge to further their sport-related careers, and to enhance athletic leadership options in K-12 education. An internship is required.
Exercise Science: This Traditional Master’s degree (non-certification) is an educationally recognized program (ERP) by the National Strength and Conditioning Association for its outstanding curriculum leading to careers in athletic strength conditioning. The Kinesiology Department houses two state-of-the-art Human Performance Laboratories that feature metabolic cart systems, body composition technology, an endless pool and electromyography to study muscle physiology first-hand. An internship is required.

This Exercise Science and Sport Management degrees require students to meet on campus. Students in these courses enroll in a program to connect in a campus setting and to collaborate using a variety of technological and educational tools. Professors play an inspirational role in building relationships among teams and individuals in this setting. The criteria for many programs can only be met with In-Class coursework. Be sure to check with your advisor to understand the best route to take.
