The faculty and staff of the College of Education are devoted to preparing future leaders in the field of Education and work to constantly improve the quality of education services.
The Department of Curriculum, Instruction, and Technology houses degree programs in Secondary Education, Elementary Education, and Instructional Technology. The faculty provide innovative pedagogy designed to prepare quality teachers and technology leaders to facilitate learning in the 21st century.
The Department of Counselor, Leadership, and Special Education offers educator preparation for a variety of careers in educational and community agency settings. Future graduates will become principals, teachers, school counselors, clinical mental health counselors, educational coaches, university professors, and local and state department central office personnel. We offer programs at the bachelors, masters, specialist, and doctoral levels.
The highly qualified Kinesiology faculty is well-known for their work on cutting-edge research and grants, being American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM) fellows, and holding ACSM and NSCA-CSCS certifications. The Department of Kinesiology provides academic programming in Exercise Science, Physical Education Teacher Education, and Sport Management at the undergraduate and graduate levels. Opportunities for faculty-guided research is abundant and the quality of instruction provided by faculty is top-notch
The College of Education Dean’s Office oversees the three academic units and their programs; furthermore, it is responsible for the Early Learning Center and all administrative support in the areas of assessment, evaluation, advising, and certification. The Dean’s office collaborates with local businesses and the educational community for the purpose of creating and enhancing partnerships and student placement opportunities for internships and field experiences. The Alabama State Department of Education (ASLDE) is offering a new quick route to a class B Professional Educator certification for future 6-12 Special Education teachers, and AUM is part of this route!
The accreditation of the College of Education is by the Council for the Accreditation of Education Preparation (CAEP), the Council for Accreditation of Counseling & Related Educational Programs (CACREP) and all its programs are approved by the Alabama Department of Education.
The Office of Student Services and Teacher Certification can assist you with academic advising, securing internships, and applying for a Professional Educator Certificate from Alabama’s State Department of Education.
