Special Education 6-12 Certificate Option

Special education teachers are in high demand, both here and around the country.

The number of students who require special education services is growing exponentially—but the number of qualified Secondary Special Education teachers is highly needed!

The Alabama State Department of Education (ASLDE) is offering a new quick route to a class B Professional Educator certification for future 6-12 Special Education teachers, and AUM is part of this route!

Courses

This course provides a comprehensive survey of the field of special education with major emphasis on individual differences and the strategies for adapting education programs to educationally different children.

This course develops knowledge of the ethical behavior expected of special education teachers, the roles and responsibilities of a professional educator, special education law, transition, and policies and procedures pertaining to special education.

This course highlights evidence-based best practices in collaboration, the fundamentals of group processes, and skills needed for collaboration.

This course demonstrates how collaboration creates a safe, inclusive learning environments across a wide range of settings and behaviors.

This course is an interpretation of psychological test results, administration of standardized tests, and informal test results with emphasis on utilization of diagnostic information in the writing of individual educational prescriptions for exceptional children and at-risk learners.
