AUM's Math Placement Program could save you valuable time and tuition dollars!
Math Placement is all about you. It’s a no judgement zone that allows you to work on areas where you are less confident and get prepared for the upcoming semester.
Not only is the program free, it could save you from taking up to two math classes. That means you could save up to $2,700 in tuition and two semesters of math.
It’s on your time, on your computer, and totally in your control!
AUM’s math placement program, ALEKS, is designed to match you with the appropriate AUM math course for your specific program of study. We encourage new incoming Warhawks to complete the ALEKS program before their scheduled Student Orientation. We want to ensure you soar at AUM through the successful completion of your math courses!
Best of all, it’s free!
What are the potential benefits of taking the placement test?
Who is eligible to take a placement test?
Note: Students are allotted four attempts to take a proctored placement test, and they have one year from when they register for an ALEKS PPL account to use those attempts.
Register with the ALEKS Program
You will need the following items to register:
AUM’s ALEKS program is online, and students work at their own pace. While students work through online math modules, they will have access to AUM’s free tutoring centers—the Instructional Support Lab and the Learning Center—if they need additional support.
To register:
Note: This is how you will access your ALEKS PPL account in the future.
Complete the tools tutorial to unlock the placement assessment; this first assessment is a no-stress diagnostic because it does not produce an official placement score. ALEKS uses the results of the assessment to tailor your math experience in the program specifically to you. (Note: The program will ask you to download a test security program called “Lockdown Browser”)
Once you finish the placement assessment, begin working through the ALEKS math modules until you are ready to take the proctored placement test on campus.
The placement test uses the AI-driven web-based software ALEKS PPL. The goal is to provide ample opportunities and guided assistance for students looking to improve their math placement and college math readiness.
Only a proctored ALEKS Placement Test can be used for official math placement. Students will need to come to campus to take their placement tests under proctored conditions. (Please note that outside calculators are not permitted during on-campus proctored placement tests). Students will need to bring a picture ID (e.g. AUM ID or Driver’s License) to take the placement test.
**Note Regarding Registering for your Math Class:
Once you have completed the program and earned the ALEKS placement score you are happy with, please contact your advisor for guidance. Once your new score is entered into our system, you will be able to register for the math class for which you are now eligible using the appropriate alternate PIN.
If you have any questions, please contact Christine Cash in the Warhawk Academic Success Center at [email protected].
