The Kinesiology programs at AUM provide outstanding opportunities for individuals who want to work in fast-paced, sports-related settings. A variety of programs are offered, including Exercise Science, Physical Education, and Sport Management. Coursework is designed to meet the needs of students and prepare them to work in both school and non-school settings. Courses are designed to develop critical thinking and problem-solving skills through theory and practical application.

The Exercise Science program is a dynamic and exciting major preparing students for careers in human performance, training and conditioning, corporate fitness and wellness. Clinical and preventive areas of preparation include cardiac rehabilitation, pre-physical therapy and health promotion. The AUM Exercise Science program is an educationally recognized program (ERP) by the National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA) for its outstanding program leading to careers in athletic strength conditioning. An internship is required.

The undergraduate Physical Education Teacher certification program prepares candidates to teach physical education in a P-12 setting. Candidates must meet AUM and Alabama Department of Education teacher certification requirements. An internship is required.

The undergraduate Sport Management program at AUM will assist students in preparing for sport-related careers. A combination of sport-related coursework and business class work will develop students’ specialized knowledge and skills. The courses focus on areas such as marketing, facility management, risk management and legal issues, leadership, ethics and others. An internship is required.

The first transition point in the teacher education program is admission to Professional Education. Each undergraduate candidate preparing to teach and pursuing initial teacher certification must be admitted to Professional Education.
The second transition point in the teacher education program is approval to intern. This practical, pre-service teacher education is vital to the development of the AUM teacher candidate. Internships are an excellent way for students to hone their skills and talents.
The Praxis Series® tests are taken by individuals entering the teaching profession as part of the certification process required by many states and professional licensing organizations. Ask us about AUM’s PRAXIS results!
