Kinesiology

Graduate Kinesiology

The Department of Kinesiology offers graduate programs in Exercise Science, Physical Education Teacher Education and Sport Management. In addition, the department offers a variety of sport elective courses available to all students at the university. Graduates from this area of study could choose career paths in developed and emerging fields including:

  • Education
  • Human performance
  • Health and wellness
  • Strength and conditioning
  • Cardiac rehab
  • Pre-physical therapy
  • Corporate fitness

The AUM College of Education recognizes that the development of a competent, committed, and reflective educator means the development of a Professional Educator.

Exercise Science

The dynamic and exciting Exercise Science program is an educationally recognized program (ERP) by the National Strength and Conditioning Association for its outstanding curriculum leading to careers in athletic strength conditioning. The Kinesiology Department houses two state-of-the-art Human Performance Laboratories that feature house metabolic cart systems, body composition technology, an endless pool and electromyography to study muscle physiology first-hand. An internship is required.

Physical Education
The Physical Education Teacher Certification program prepares candidates to teach physical education in a P-12 setting. Candidates must meet AUM and Alabama Department of Education teacher certification requirements.

Sport Management – Certification
The Sport Management program at AUM will assist students in preparing for sport-related careers. A combination of sport-related coursework and business class work will help develop the knowledge and skills necessary to enter the sport industry. The courses focus on areas such as marketing, facility management, risk management and legal issues, leadership, ethics and others.  An internship is required.
