In-Class

At AUM, you are in your element! Our Chemistry Professional program is especially designed for students who see themselves wanting to apply their knowledge to real-world problems. You will have access to the most current computer applications and lab resources for lab research. Our dynamic professors stand ready to collaborate your hypothesis and guide you toward your goal – to be a chemist. This program puts you on the launch pad for graduate school, which could lead to careers in academia, manufacturing, government and the nonprofit sector.

AUM is committed to creating a stimulating learning environment focused on the scientific method. In small classes and labs, our professors foster open inquiry and encourage critical thinking. We prepare you to be a member of the next generation of chemists who will solve the world’s future problems. Maybe your passion is:

  • Protecting the environment by analyzing and reporting on contaminated water.
  • Being a part of a team of chemists who discover a clean and cost-effective way to upcycle used plastic, transforming it into valuable nanomaterials and high-quality fuel.
  • Be recognized for joining the global race to reduce harmful gases in our atmosphere to slow down the pace of climate change

Employment prospects for chemists are bright, and salary expectations are even better. Research institutions will actively seek to hire innovative chemists to find sustainable solutions for consumer products, medicine, and energy. The average job growth for all occupations is 3%, but the growth rate for careers in chemistry averages 5-14 percent – much greater than other professions.

In addition to the Chemistry Professional program, AUM’s College of Sciences offers two other options for a chemistry major: Chemistry, designed for students who wish to work in government or private laboratories, and Chemistry/Health Sciences, a course of study for students who wish to pursue graduate/professional studies in a healthcare field.
