AUM’s Office of Veteran Services is here to assist students eligible for the U.S. Veterans Administration education benefits and the Alabama National Guard Education Assistance Program (ANGEAP). If you have not applied for your VA Educational Benefits you are encouraged to do so immediately. It could take 30 to 45 days after receipt for the VA to review and approve the application.
The following students are eligible to use Chapter 33 benefits:
Dependents and spouses of veterans who have been determined by the VA as being service connected totally and permanently disabled or if the veteran died while on active duty (service connected) may be eligible for this benefit. For more information go to Dependents Education Assistance Program.
Students who began active duty service after 6/30/1985, had their pay reduced by $100 a month for 12 months, and who receive an honorable discharge may be eligible for this benefit. For more information go to Montgomery GI Bill Active Duty.
Students currently serving in the Air Force/Army National Guard or the Air Force, Army, Coast Guard, Marine Corps, or Navy Reserves may be eligible for this benefit.

This benefit is for veterans only. The award of this benefit is determined on an individual basis following an evaluation of the veteran’s unique interests, aptitudes, education, work experience and vocational abilities. For more information go to Vocational Rehabilitation and Employment.
Yellow Ribbon is a program that provides additional educational benefits to students that have been awarded Chapter 33 benefits at the 100 percent rate. At AUM students who are charged the out of state tuition rate may be eligible for Yellow Ribbon. The VA and AUM each contributes 50 percent of the certified amount for Yellow Ribbon. ANGEAP is a program established by the State of Alabama to assist the members of the Alabama National Guard with the cost of their education. Each year the state establishes a maximum dollar amount the eligible student may receive in tuition and fees. To receive ANGEAP, the student must submit a current year application to the Office of Veterans Services for each semester enrolled.

The Fry Scholarship provides benefits to the children and surviving spouses of service members who died in the line of duty while serving on active duty after 9/10/2001. For more information go to Fry Scholarship.
Each branch of service offers assistance to pay for a student’s education while they are on active duty or actively serving in the National Guard or Reserves. Students should contact their Military Education Support Office for the current policy for their branch of service. The Office of Student Accounts is responsible for processing TA requests at AUM. The State of Alabama Department of Veterans’ Affairs provides financial assistance to dependents of Alabama’s disabled veterans.
