College of Business achieves candidacy status for MHA program accreditation

logoAuburn University at Montgomery’s College of Business has achieved candidacy status with the Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Management Education (CAHME) for accreditation of its Master of Healthcare Administration (MHA) program.

The work and contributions of Dr. Michael McEachern, faculty, and staff in the College of Business helped the MHA program achieve CAHME candidacy. According to CAHME, candidacy status serves as indicator that “a program in healthcare management has voluntarily committed to participate in a plan of self-improvement and is actively progressing toward the status of accreditation.”

Throughout the candidacy process, AUM’s College of Business will continue to work toward full CAHME accreditation of the MHA program.

AUM mourns loss of first full-time athletic director

Bill Elder, AUM’s first full-time director of athletics, recently passed away.

Elder enjoyed a 40-year career as a basketball coach and intercollegiate athletics administrator. A native of Bucyrus, Ohio, Elder served nearly 30 years as an athletic director, including stops at Northeast State Junior College, University of Mobile, LeTourneau University (Texas), Lindsey Wilson College (Kentucky) and AUM.

During his coaching career, Elder went 549-288 combined with Northeast State JUCO, Montevallo, and University of Mobile. He was inducted into the NAIA Basketball Coaches’ Hall of Fame in 1995 and is also a member of the Mobile Sports Hall of Fame, as well as the athletic halls of fame at Montevallo and Lindsey Wilson College.

A graveside service was held last week in Birmingham.
