Warhawk Weekly 2-4: Homecoming royalty; Theatre AUM takes spotlight

Introducing AUM’s Homecoming royalty
AUM’s weeklong Homecoming celebration ended over the weekend with a pair of exciting basketball games, a birthday celebration for Curtiss the Warhawk and the introduction of new student royalty.
Sophia DelPrincipe earned the tiara and sash as AUM’s new Homecoming queen, while Deyundre Graham was selected as king.
Other members of the Homecoming court included Freshman Attendant Myana Wilson, Sophomore Attendant Tyranny Causey and Junior Attendant Jasmine Sanford.
Curtiss the Warhawk received a new basketball jersey to commemorate his 13th birthday, while three student teams collected prize money in the Chancellor’s Cup competition. “Voluntold,” a team representing AUM’s Student Veterans of America chapter, collected the $1,000 grand prize. “The Brainy Bunch” and “Mandatory Fun” tied for second place based on points and each collected $750 for their organizations.
Theatre AUM takes spotlight at regional festival
Theatre AUM students and faculty will be in the spotlight this week at the Kennedy Center American College Theatre Festival (KCACTF) Region IV Conference in North Carolina.
The conference, which opens today and ends Saturday on the campuses of the University of North Carolina and North Carolina A&T, includes top performers from nine states as well as Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands. Theatre AUM earned an invitation to perform its Fall 2024 production of “RED,” which was selected as one of the top five distinguished productions in the Southeast Region.
Set in the 1950s and based on a series of real events, “RED” — written by American playwright John Logan and directed by Michael Krek — offers a compelling exploration of the evolving relationship between an artist and his creations. The play centers on a conversation between the real abstract expressionist Mark Rothko and his fictional assistant Ken.
