Celebrate AUM’s international cultures

We’re looking forward to celebrating the international flavors and traditions found within the Auburn University at Montgomery community and Alabama’s River Region.

Drop by the Quad and the AUM Athletics Complex on Saturday, April 15, from 3-7 p.m., for AUM’s first Cultural Festival.

The event, which is free and open to the public, will feature performances, cuisine and art from around the globe. AUM student Jerome Godwin III, a contestant on the current season of NBC’s “The Voice,” will be among the performers.

Get to know our graduate programs

Join members of SGA, as well as students and mascots from Alabama’s other public universities for Higher Education Day at the state capitol on Thursday, April 13.

The event celebrates the value of Alabama’s public colleges and universities and encourages state policymakers to support public policy that elevates the collective impact of the state’s universities.

Buses will leave from the Duck Pond parking lot at 9:30 a.m. and return to campus around 2 p.m. AUM T-shirts will be provided for all attendees.

Join SGA at Alabama Higher Education Day

If you’ve thought about pursuing a master’s degree or doctorate, you’ll want to join us for our Graduate Studies Preview Night tonight, from 5-7 p.m., in Taylor Center 221-223.

The event offers an opportunity to identify the best graduate program for your field and your future — and for your professional timeline. There will be multiple drawings throughout the night for stackable book scholarships. Dinner will be provided.

Tennis teams solidify national rankings

Catch the AUM baseball team and men’s and women’s tennis teams at home this week.

The baseball team will host Albany State for a 3 p.m. game on Wednesday before traveling to Pensacola for a weekend series against West Florida.

The nationally ranked women’s and men’s tennis teams will visit Montevallo Wednesday before hosting Lee University on Friday for Senior Day. The men’s and women’s matches will start at 11 a.m.

The women are ranked No. 14 nationally, while the men are No. 22. Friday’s matches will provide a tough test as Lee’s men are ranked No. 9, while its women are 38th.

AUM’s softball team faces top-ranked North Georgia today on the road and will travel to West Florida.

Award-winning author to discuss creative writing

Award-winning fiction writer Damian Dressick will visit campus on Monday, April 17, to lead a writing workshop with creative writing students and give a public reading of his work. Join him at 6 p.m. at Theatre AUM on the second floor of Taylor Center.

The event is free and open to the campus community.

Dressick is the author of the novel “40 Patchtown” (Bottom Dog Press) and the flash collection “Fables of the Deconstruction”(CLASH Books). His writing has appeared in more than 70 literary journals and anthologies, including W.W. Norton’s “New Micro,” “Electric Literature,” “Post Road,” “New Orleans Review,” “Cleaver,” and “New World Writing.” A Blue Mountain Residency Fellow, Dressick is the winner of the Harriette Arnow Award and the Jesse Stuart Prize. He co-hosts “WANA: LIVE!,” a (largely) virtual reading series that brings some of the best Appalachian writers to the world.

‘Uncle Vanya’ takes the Theatre AUM stage

Theatre AUM will feature seven performances of “Uncle Vanya” by Anton Chekhov.

Directed by faculty member Mike Winkelman, the play follows the visit of an elderly professor and his much younger and glamorous second wife to a rural estate. Catch performances April 13-15 and April 20-22 at 7:30 p.m. or April 23 at 2 p.m.

Admission is free to AUM students and employees.

Thinking about law school as an option after graduation? You’ll want to drop in on the virtual Pre-Law Information Meeting featuring some Auburn University at Montgomery alums who have earned or are currently pursuing law degrees.

It’s happening Wednesday, April 12, at 4:45 p.m. in 209K Goodwyn Hall.

Chancellor’s Business Breakfast to feature NASA official

Don Krupp, associate program manager for NASA’s Human Landing System (HLS) program, will serve as the keynote speaker for the AUM Chancellor’s Business Breakfast Series on Thursday, April 20.

The event will take place at 7:30 a.m. at the RSA Activity Center.

In addition to advising and assisting the HLS program manager, Krupp oversees all program office business operations, strategic planning and communication, staffing, data management and cybersecurity.

Join SPLC-On Campus for Civil Rights Memorial tour

AUM’s SPLC-On Campus chapter is sponsoring a visit to the SPLC Civil Rights Memorial on Friday, April 21. The event is open to students, faculty and staff, and admission is free.

The tour takes about one hour. A bus will leave from campus at 12:45 p.m. from the front of Taylor Center and will return to campus between 1:15 and 1:30 p.m.
