Anybody up for some friendly competition?
As part of Homecoming 2024, student organizations will have an opportunity to compete for prize money as part of the Chancellor’s Cup. Activities will take place February 5-9, with the winning team announced during the Feb. 10 basketball doubleheader.
2024 Civil Rights & Civic Virtue Speaker Series opens this week
Auburn University at Montgomery’s Civil Rights & Civic Virtue Society (CRCV) will host Kyes Stevens, founder and director of the Alabama Prison Arts + Ed Project, as its guest speaker on Thursday, Jan. 25.
The free breakfast event begins at 8 a.m. in Goodwyn Hall 109.
Under Steven’s leadership, the Alabama Prisons Arts + Ed Project has worked with adult prison population in Alabama. Auburn University and the APAEP offer a bachelor of science degree in interdisciplinary studies at Staton Correctional Facility and Tutwiler Prison for Women. Stevens has earned Auburn University’s Award for Excellence in Faculty Outreach as well as the 2019 Alabama State Council on the Arts’ Governor’s Arts Award.
Theatre AUM hosts student showcase
Enjoy songs, scenes and monologues with our talented Theatre AUM cast members as part of the New Millennium Student Showcase. Performances will be held in the Taylor Center Theatre AUM facility on the following dates:
- Thursday, Jan. 25, 7:30 p.m.
- Friday, Jan. 26, 7:30 p.m.
- Saturday, Jan. 27, 7:30 p.m.
- Sunday, Jan. 28, 2 p.m.
Admission is free, but attendees are encouraged to bring non-perishable donations for the AUM Honors Program Food Pantry.
Casino Night offers fun for AUM alumni
Deal us in for the AUM Alumni Association’s Homecoming plans.
Alumni 21-and-over (that includes faculty and staff who are graduates) are invited to Casino Night on Friday, Feb. 9, beginning at 6:30 p.m. in Taylor Center 221-223. The event will feature dinner, drinks, games, a deejay and photo booth.
West Alabama visits for basketball doubleheader
AUM’s men’s and women’s basketball team will have a quick turnaround after a Monday road trip to Huntsville.
The Warhawks will host West Alabama for a doubleheader on Wednesday for Greek Night. The women will tip off at 5:30 p.m., followed by the men at 7:30.
The AUM women will try to extend their winning streak to three games after a 71-60 win over UAH. The Warhawks overcame a 14-point halftime deficit, outscoring UAH 52-27 in the second half.
Apply for the Graduate Study Merit Scholarship
If you’re a current graduate student who has completed at least nine course hours and possess a GPA of 3.4 or better, you may be eligible to receive the 2024-2025 Graduate Study Merit Scholarship offered by the AUM Alumni Association.
To apply for the scholarship, submit the following documents to [email protected] (include “Scholarship Committee, AUM Alumni Association” in the subject line) by March 15:
- Your graduate GPA
- Two letters of support, preferably from AUM faculty or staff (on AUM official letterhead), emphasizing leadership attributes
- A 250-word essay outlining the applicant’s educational and career objectives, academic honors/civic activities, and how the award will benefit them.
