Apply for Graduation

Students nearing completion of their degree requirements should apply for graduation when registering for their final term.

Fall 2021 graduation application submission: 
3/26/21 – 8/29/21

Spring 2022 graduation application submission:
10/29/2021 – 1/23/2022

Summer 2022 graduation application submission:
3/25/2022 – 6/12/2022

Application Process

Application Process:

  1. Meet with your advisor and confirm that you are on track to graduate at the end of the term.
  2. Complete the online Graduation Application through MYAUM/Webster account by the deadline to apply for the current semester. A confirmation page will be displayed showing your application has been accepted. It is highly recommended that you print this page for your own records.
  3. Pay the non-refundable graduation fee ($85 for undergraduates and $98 for graduate students). This fee will be posted to your student account.
  4. All relevant information concerning graduation will be sent to you by email. Please be sure to frequently check your AUM email. All graduation communication will go through AUM email addresses only.

You're Graduating... What's next in planning for the big day?

Graduation is the completion of all graduation requirements and official posting of a student’s degree to his/her academic record. Commencement is the ceremony in which students who are eligible to graduate participate. Although AUM has three graduation awarding dates per year (May, August, and December), there are only two commencement ceremonies (May and December).

While degrees are awarded three times during the year (May, August, and December), there are only two formal commencement ceremonies (May and December). The December commencement program includes those students who had graduated during the previous August as well as those students finishing their program in December.

Caps and gowns for Bachelor’s, Master’s, and Education Specialist degrees are in stock at the AUM Bookstore; therefore, you do not have to pre-order. Doctoral degree candidates should contact the bookstore the first month of the semester in which they are graduating to order their regalia. The AUM Bookstore can be contacted at bookstore@aum.edu and 334-244-3578.

Making a class gift is a way to commemorate your graduation and the first step to starting your legacy of alumni involvement. Graduating students who give at least $20.21 (class of 2021) will receive a commemorative medallion to wear at Commencement.

You may order invitations to the commencement ceremony from a vendor through the AUM Bookstore.

Due to a larger than normal graduating class this Fall 2021 and the current health guidelines requiring social distancing, graduates may invite no more than five (5) guests.

For the 10:00 a.m. ceremony, guests should arrive between 9:00-9:40 a.m.. For the 2:00 p.m. ceremony, guests should arrive between 1:00-1:40 p.m.

Candidates are encouraged to wear black clothing under the gown. Comfortable black dress shoes are recommended since you will be doing a lot of walking. The tassel on your mortar board hangs on the right of the cap as you enter the ceremony. During the ceremony when the degrees are conferred, you will move it to the left.

Graduates will receive directions where to go when they enter the Multiplex and will receive further instructions upon check-in. Graduates should arrive wearing their regalia and should not any personal items, such as purses, inside.

If you qualify, academic honor cords and/or military honor cords will be distributed during the pre-ceremony. (Please contact the specific organizations for honorary scholastic cords. If you are receiving a cord from another organization, pick it up from the sponsor in advance of commencement.)

  • Undergraduate students are eligible for Latin Honors. Graduate students do not receive academic honors.
  • A minimum of 50 resident/institution hours at AUM is required to be eligible for academic honors (Summa, Magna, or Cum Laude).
  • All undergraduate coursework taken at AUM, including repeated & forgiven courses, is counted in honors determination. Students’ Institution/AUM GPA, not their transfer or overall GPAs, determines their Latin Honors.
  • Cum Laude 3.4-3.59; Magna Cum Laude 3.6-3.79; Summa Cum Laude 3.8-4.0.

 If a graduate has a disability and requires assistance, contact the Registrar’s Office by November 10, 2021 at 334-244-3125 or email records@aum.edu. While there will not be any preceding seating reservations, there will be staff to assist with guest seating and wheelchair access seating.

Diplomas will be mailed to graduates the week after commencement to the address provided on the graduation application. Graduates may email records@aum.edu to confirm or change the mailing address.

University regulations require that all degree candidates be enrolled during the term of graduation. If a student fails to graduate in the term for which application is made, the applicant must reapply in a subsequent term. (The graduation fee will not be assessed for reapplication.)
