Warhawk Weekly 8-27: New varsity sport; Warhawks take flight
AUM tees up new varsity sport
Since making the transition to NCAA Division II, AUM Athletics has established itself as a consistent postseason contender in several sports. The Warhawks will soon pursue conference championships in the fairways and greens once women’s golf makes its debut as a varsity sport in Fall 2025.
The addition of women’s golf will expand the athletic department’s family of teams to 12 and will become the first new sport added since volleyball in 2017. The golf program will also compete as a member of the Gulf South Conference and NCAA Division II.
“We are thrilled to be adding women’s golf to our athletic department at AUM,” AUM Chancellor Carl A. Stockton said. “We are excited to offer additional opportunities for female student-athletes to compete as Warhawks and pursue their educational goals at AUM. We know the rich tradition of women’s golf in the Gulf South Conference and look forward to competing against some of Division II’s best female golfers.”

Helping new Warhawks take flight
Nearly 500 incoming Warhawks officially earned their wings during last Friday’s New Student Convocation at the AUM Athletics Complex.
In addition to learning about the university’s traditions, the students received messages of encouragement from AUM Chancellor Carl A. Stockton, Distinguished Research & Honors Professor in Theatre & Communication Val Winkelman, and SGA President Emma Jankowski before dancing the music of the Jammin’ Warhawks faculty and staff band.
Imagination Station to showcase emerging artists
Emerging artists ages 12-and-over have an opportunity to showcase their work through the upcoming Imagination Station juried exhibit, which grew from a partnership between local high school student Harmony Koda and AUM’s Department of Fine Arts.
Artists residing in Montgomery, Elmore and Autauga counties may submit recent or new work online by 5 p.m. on Tues., Sept. 3.
