Senior Abigail Williams is the third AUM accounting student to earn a $10,000 scholarship as a Public Company Accounting Oversight Board (PCAOB) Scholar. PCAOB scholars are nominated by faculty for the honor and must be enrolled in accounting degree program at their nominating college or university. “To know that the professors, faculty and staff within the School of Accountancy see my potential and hard work as scholar worthy confirms that I am exactly where I belong,” said Williams, who is active in the AUM Accounting Club and Beta Alpha Psi honor society. “I am so thankful and grateful that God has gifted me with professors, family, and friends who see potential in me and wholeheartedly pursue my dreams alongside me.” Williams is expected to graduate with a bachelor’s degree in accounting in May 2022. After completing her undergraduate degree, she plans to pursue a Master of Accountancy at AUM beginning in Summer 2022 and prepare for the Certified Public Accountant exam. The PCAOB Scholars Program was established to award scholarships to benefit students who are likely to become auditors and to make a difference to students who might have otherwise chosen a different career path. Fall 2021 students who are fully vaccinated against COVID-19 – or who plan to be soon – can receive $200 and be entered into random drawings for much larger prizes. Warhawk Health Services will soon provide information on upcoming vaccination clinics that will be hosted on campus. As in the past, there will be no charge to receive the two-shot Pfizer Bio-NTech vaccine, and no appointments will be necessary. Get verified! Students who have already received their COVID-19 vaccines can present proof today and Wednesday, from 11 a.m.-1 p.m., in Taylor Center next to AUMazing Bean. Students should bring their AUM ID and vaccination card. Once confirmed, they will be eligible to receive a $200 reward and be entered into a random drawing for a $2,500 scholarship, multiple $1,000 scholarships, housing scholarships, iPads and other prizes. AUM has administered Pfizer-BioNTech vaccines to more than 4,000 students, employees and community members. AUM students and employees are required to wear face coverings (securely covering the mouth and nose) while in classrooms and other shared indoor spaces on campus, as well as while using university transportation. AUM faculty considering submitting a proposal for teaching Honors courses in Fall 2022 or Spring 2023 may submit proposals to [email protected] by October 29, 2021. Honors Committee members will review all course proposals. For more information, visit the UHP faculty information site or email Honors Director Lynn Stallings with questions. AUM has partnered with the American Red Cross to host a campus blood drive in September. The drive will be held 10 a.m. – 3 p.m. September 21 in the Taylor Center, room 230. As part of the drive, there will be testing for COVID-19 antibodies from each pint of blood donated. AUM community members can help others by making an appointment to participate in the upcoming blood drive. Appointments can be made at redcrossblood.org with the code AUM or using your zip code. You may also call 1-800-RED CROSS (1-800-733-2767) to set an appointment. Donors must bring your driver’s license or other form of ID. You can save 15 minutes off the process time by completing a Red Cross Rapid Pass before you come. Counseling & Health Promotion Services is offering free online mental health screening for students.
