Warhawk Weekly 7-7: Guitar Club community; Start AUM strong

How one student’s love of guitar created a lasting AUM community

Recent AUM graduate Arlyssea Thomas turned her interest in learning guitar into a growing campus community. Before graduating in Spring 2026, Thomas founded the AUM Guitar Club to bring students together through music and create a welcoming space for Warhawks of all experience levels to learn, practice and connect.

Now entering its second semester as an official student organization, the Guitar Club welcomes beginners and experienced players alike. Under the leadership of club president Brandi Kitts, a senior majoring in early childhood education, members practice songs, learn guitar fundamentals and receive support from peers and faculty advisor Russell Chambliss, military admissions associate in AUM’s Veterans and Military Resource Center. Students do not need to own a guitar to participate, as the club provides electric, acoustic and acoustic-electric guitars for use during meetings.

Looking ahead, the Guitar Club hopes to expand through jam sessions, workshops, performances and community service projects. Students interested in joining can email [email protected], [email protected] or [email protected]. The club also shares updates on Instagram at aum_guitarclub and communicates with members through GroupMe.
