Volunteers needed for NCAA regional tournament

Auburn University at Montgomery’s status as a host site for the NCAA South Regional softball tournament provides a fantastic opportunity to showcase our campus.

As the top-seeded Warhawks prepare to host Nova Southeastern, Alabama-Huntsville and Tuskegee for the three-day regional, AUM Athletics needs volunteers to serve in a variety of capacities each day of the tournament.

AUM employees who are interested in serving as volunteers can contact AUM Athletics Fan Experience/Special Events Coordinator Nick Robison to get involved.

Staffing assistance is needed on Thursday, from 11 a.m. to 6:30 p.m., Friday, from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m., and Saturday, from 11 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. or 6:30 p.m. (depending on whether the championship series goes to a second game).

The tournament will begin on Thursday, with Nova Southeastern and Alabama-Huntsville facing off at 1 p.m. and AUM taking on Tuskegee at 3:30 p.m.

Game times for Friday are 1 p.m., 3:30 p.m. and 6 p.m.

Celebrating the Spring 2022 class

AUM celebrated the success of 475 graduates over the course of two commencement ceremonies at the Multiplex at Cramton Bowl.

We caught up with a few of our new graduates to learn more about where their AUM education will take them.

Four students earn Graduate Merit Scholarships

Students Evelina Avleeva, Marcus Robinson, Olivia Shipp, and Margaret Dean have each earned 2022-2023 Graduate Merit Scholarships from the AUM Alumni Association.

Recipients of the $1,000 scholarships funded by alumni association members must maintain a GPA of 3.4 or higher, enroll in and complete nine hours each semester and be continuously enrolled for each semester covered by the award.

Aveleeva earned a bachelor’s degree in Sport Management from AUM in 2020 and is currently pursuing a master’s degree in the same field. After graduation, she plans to pursue a doctorate in Hospitality Management and become a university professor.

Robinson earned a bachelor’s degree in Exercise Science and plans to pursue a master’s degree in the same field. After graduating, Robinson plans to become certified as a Strength and Conditioning Specialist to help others become the best version of themselves through exercise.

Shipp earned a bachelor’s degree in Psychology from AUM in 2021 , and is currently pursuing a master’s degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling. Her ultimate career goal is to become a counselor with AUM Counseling and Health Promotion Services.

Dean earned a bachelor’s degree in Psychology from AUM in 2021 and is currently pursuing a master’s degree in the same subject area. After completing her master’s degree, Dean plans to become a therapist and counsel young people.

AUM Army ROTC commissions four cadets in spring Class of 2022

Auburn University at Montgomery Army Reserve Officer Training Corp (ROTC) — Mustang Battalion — has commissioned 4 cadets in the spring graduating Class of 2022.

In a May 5 commissioning ceremony, the following students transitioned from the rank of Cadet to 2nd Lieutenant and were commissioned as Army Officers:

  • 2nd Calan Ates
  • 2nd Pedro Sainz
  • 2nd Caleb Schannep
  • 2nd Justin Thomas

Student survey participants named prize winners

AUM students Hayden Terrell and Precious Beeman have each been awarded a prize for participating in the Retain Alabama Survey.

AUM’s Career Development Center asked sophomores, juniors and seniors to take the survey to share their perceptions and goals of college students in Alabama. Students were eligible to win prizes for their participation.

Terrell was awarded the grand prize, an iPad, and Beeman received an AUM Bookstore “Swag Pack.”

Green Zone training offered to employees

AUM employees interested in learning how to better serve the university’s military-affiliated population can participate in Green Zone training on Thursday, May 12, at 11 a.m. in Taylor Center 221.

Training focuses on increasing awareness of the backgrounds and needs of our military affiliated students. Participants that attend will receive a certificate and a green zone sticker to place outside their office space.
