AUM extends streak of Military Friendly university honors

For the eighth consecutive year, Auburn University at Montgomery has been nationally recognized as a “Military Friendly® School” — earning a Top 10 ranking in the Small Public School category and also being designated a Military Spouse Friendly School for 2025-2026.

The distinction, awarded by Viqtory Media and published in G.I. Jobs magazine, places AUM among the top institutions nationwide on the basis of its commitment to creating educational opportunities for veterans, active-duty service members, and their families. AUM was ranked earned the No. 9 national ranking in its category, underscoring its strong support system for military-affiliated students.

More than 1,600 institutions were evaluated based on factors such as:

  • Affordability
  • Flexibility in course delivery
  • Commitment to the 8 Keys to Veterans’ Success
  • Support services tailored to military and veteran students

Students earn state recognition for PR campaign work

AUM's PRCA Student Chapter were recognized for their campaign work.Members of AUM’s Public Relations Council of Alabama Student Chapter recently earned recognition for their efforts to promote media literacy among university students and employees.

Students Katelyn Lindsey-Hunter, Tyreanna Causey, Seth Murdick, Jennifer Tolbert, Devin Vaughn and Aaliyah Watson earned an Award of Excellence in the PRCA Student Medallion Awards at the organization’s 2025 state conference in Tuscaloosa.

Their PR campaign project – “2024 U.S. Media Literacy Week at AUM” – included “Triple-A EC booths” focused on the media literacy themes of “access, analyze, evaluate, create and act.” The student organization also promoted a film screening of the movie “Dark Money”, working with the College of Liberal Arts & Social Sciences at the Media Writing Dynamics class. Their efforts included social media messaging, event flyers and collaborative promotional videos with the AUMLive communication club.

Certification program focuses on big picture of Big Data

AUM hosts summer STEAM Camp

Students in microbiology prepared lab tools to swab petri dishes.Students from select Montgomery middle and high schools will have the opportunity to dive into hands-on science, technology, engineering, arts, and math (STEAM) activities this summer during a free summer camp hosted by Auburn University at Montgomery.

The camp, which is open to rising students in grades 7th through 12th, will be held weekdays from 9 a.m. – 4 p.m., July 7-25, at AUM’s new Science & Technology Complex.

While the camp is free to attend, a $20 space registration fee will be charged if a student registers but fails to attend without providing at least five business days’ notice. Lunch will be provided daily at no cost to participants.

The camp is open to students enrolled at the following schools: Bellingrath, Brewbaker, Carr, Capitol Heights, Dunbar-Ramer, Goodwyn, McKee, and Southlawn middle schools, as well as Carver, Johnson Abernathy Graetz, and Percy Julian high schools.

Space is limited to just over 70 students, and slots are expected to fill quickly. The program is made possible through a grant from the Alabama State Department of Education.

Warhawks face challengers on the road

AUM’s softball, baseball and tennis teams will each face conference rivals on the road this week. Here’s a look at what’s happening in each spring sport:

Softball: The No. 6-ranked Warhawks (29-9, 20-7 in Gulf South Conference) own first place in the league with two weeks remaining in the regular season. AUM will visit Delta State for a three-game series beginning Thursday with an 11 a.m. doubleheader. The Warhawks have won five consecutive series.

Baseball: AUM (11-30, 8-19 in GSC) will visit league-leading Delta State for a three-game series beginning Friday at 5 p.m.

Tennis: AUM’s men and women will visit Delta State for Friday matches beginning at noon. The AUM women (10-5, 4-2 GSC) are ranked 15th in the most recent ITA national standings. AUM’s men enter the weekend 7-8 (3-4 in GSC).
