If you’re ready to start building the next phase of your career or considering changing careers, AUM Graduate Studies Preview Night is an opportunity to identify the best graduate program for your field and future.

Graduate Preview Night is today from 5-7 p.m. in Taylor Center 221-223. There will be multiple drawings throughout the night for stackable book scholarships and application fees are waived for attendees.

The free event is designed to allow current students and working professionals to identify which AUM master’s degree and doctoral programs best fit their needs for professional advancement or reinvention.

Represent your major at Innovation Weekend

Whether you study business, biology, communication, computer science or another field, AUM Innovation Weekend is your chance to bring your perspective, creativity and ideas to the challenge of building AI that people can trust.

The free challenge event runs 5 to 7:30 p.m. Friday, Oct. 16 and 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, Oct. 17-18, at The Eagle Institute in downtown Montgomery. Meals, refreshments and transportation from AUM’s campus will be provided. Reserve a spot.

Hosted by AUM’s College of Sciences in collaboration with The Eagle Institute, Innovation Weekend will bring together AUM undergraduate and graduate students and college students from across the River Region around the theme “Building Trustworthy AI Agents.” Working in interdisciplinary teams, students will tackle real-world challenges and develop AI solutions that are transparent, reliable and useful.

Teams will develop their ideas throughout the weekend before pitching their solutions to judges for a chance to win prizes and showcase their creativity and problem-solving skills.

Show your spirit at Warhawk Spotlight

Get ready to fill the stands and cheer on AUM soccer during AUM Athletics Warhawk Spotlight games Wednesday, Oct. 7, at the AUM Soccer Complex. The special event is all about pizza, fun and supporting both the Warhawk women’s and men’s soccer teams.

Hosted by Auburn University Credit Union, Warhawk Spotlight gives the AUM community a chance to come together as both teams take on the University of West Alabama in Gulf South Conference action. The women’s match kicks off at 5 p.m., followed by the men’s match at 7:30 p.m.

AUM students receive free admission and can enjoy free pizza while supplies last. Bring your Warhawk spirit, grab a slice and help create a home-field advantage for AUM soccer!

Protect yourself during Cyber Security Awareness Month

In recognition of the month, AUM will host a Cybersecurity Awareness Training session Wednesday, Oct. 7, from 1:30 to 2 p.m. in Taylor Center 221.

Brian Humphrey, AUM security specialist, will share practical tips for protecting personal and workplace information from scammers, recognizing common cyber threats and helping keep the AUM community secure.

The training offers faculty, staff and students an opportunity to learn simple steps they can take to strengthen their cybersecurity awareness and stay safer online.

Author Craig Stanland to share powerful story of second chances

The AUM community is invited to an inspiring evening with speaker and author Craig Stanland as he shares his personal story of identity, consequences and finding the courage to begin again.

Stanland will present “The Decisions That Shape a Life: A Story of Identity, Consequences, and Starting Again” on Wednesday, Oct. 7, from 6 to 7:30 p.m. in Goodwyn Hall 109.

Through his story, Stanland will challenge audiences to consider how the choices they make can shape their lives and how difficult moments can become opportunities for growth, purpose and new beginnings.

The event is presented through the AUM University Speaker Series and co-sponsored by the School of Accountancy in AUM’s College of Business and Beta Alpha Psi.

Catch a performance of ‘The Mercy Project’

Auburn University at Montgomery theatre: a person in period costume polishing a pewter pitcher and mugs on stageTheatre AUM returns to the stage this week with performances of “The Mercy Project: A Showcase Honoring Playwright Mercy Otis Warren,” celebrating the life, writings and legacy of the American Revolution-era playwright and political satirist.

Performances will be held Oct. 8-10 at 7:30 p.m., with a final performance at 2 p.m. Oct. 11 in the Taylor Center Theatre.

Directed by Distinguished Research Professor Val Winkelman, the production features a student cast bringing Warren’s story and contributions to American history, politics and theatre to the stage.

Born in 1728 in Barnstable, Massachusetts, Warren emerged as an influential writer and political commentator during an era when women were largely excluded from public political discourse. A poet, playwright and historian, she used her writing to engage with the political ideas and events that shaped the American Revolution and the early republic.

Common Thread to unveil new theme, call for submissions

AUM students are invited to celebrate creativity and learn how to showcase their work in Common Thread, the university’s longstanding student-led literary and arts magazine.

AUM’s Department of English and Philosophy and Common Thread editors will unveil the magazine’s new theme and announce the next call for submissions on Tuesday, Oct. 15 from noon to 1:30 p.m. in Goodwyn Hall 109. The event will include free food.

A collaboration between AUM’s departments of English and Philosophy and Fine Arts, Common Thread showcases the diverse creative work of AUM students and employees. The magazine celebrates storytelling and artistic expression while highlighting the history, culture and evolving perspectives that reflect AUM’s place in the South.
