Anderson crowned Miss AUM 2026-2027
AUM senior Annie Anderson was crowned Miss AUM 2026-2027 at this year’s Student Government Association’s Miss AUM Pageant.
For the talent portion of the competition, Anderson performed “Ali in a Legacy,” an original spoken-word poem in tribute to Muhammad Ali’s confidence, courage and willingness to use his voice. As Miss AUM, Anderson hopes to bridge the gap between student voices and campus leadership by encouraging civic engagement and meaningful conversations. A native of Morristown, New Jersey, she is a double major in economics and communication.
Katelyn Smith was named first runner-up and Camille Sutton second runner-up. Sutton also received Miss Congeniality, chosen by the contestants, and Kynnedi Tate was voted Fan Favorite by the audience.
Special thanks to pageant director Tyreanna Causey and to judges Kendra Love, professor of communications; Ar’Shundra Hampton of the Warhawk Academic Success Center; and Christian Grant of Central Advising for helping to make the event a success.
Congratulations to all five contestants on a great night!
Korean folklore inspires AUM’s CLASS Film Series fall screening
AUM’s College of Liberal Arts and Social Sciences (CLASS) will present the South Korean psychological horror film “A Tale of Two Sisters” as part of its CLASS Film Series and campuswide Halloween-themed festivities.
The screening will begin at 6 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 29, in Goodwyn Hall 109. Matthew Killmeier, chair and professor of communication and theatre, will lead a discussion on horror films before the screening, followed by a Q&A session.
Written and directed by Kim Jee-woon, the 2003 film draws inspiration from the Korean folktale “Janghwa Hongryeon jeon,” which has been adapted for the screen several times.
The film follows Su-mi, a young woman who returns home from a psychiatric hospital to live with her sister, Su-yeon. At their family’s secluded country estate, the sisters encounter disturbing events involving their new unhinged stepmother and emotionally distant father.
Pizza and refreshments will be provided during the screening, the CLASS Film Series’ only presentation of the fall semester.
Established by AUM’s College of Liberal Arts and Social Sciences, the CLASS Film Series showcases thought-provoking and entertaining films that explore human experience through perspectives represented by the college’s academic disciplines.
The screening is free and open to students, faculty, staff and community members.
