Theatre AUM play highlights discrimination in the South
A Theatre AUM production spotlighting discrimination in the South will be directed by award-wining theatre student Tiara Staples.
The April production of “Blood at the Root,” written by playwright, activist and actress Dominique Morisseau, will explore the lives of six high school students as they grapple with prejudice, homophobia, and institutional racism in rural Louisiana. Each character faces a different form of discrimination while witnessing a historic injustice in their community.

Staples, who earned first place in the National Stage Directors and Choreographers Society (SDC) Directing Initiative at the 2024 Kennedy Center American College Theatre Festival (KCACTF), will direct Theatre AUM’s adaptation of the powerful play. Watch Theatre AUM’s interview with Staples.
