For rising 9-12 grade high schoolers
The College of Liberal Arts and Social Sciences and the Department of Communication and Theatre are offering their fourth annual AV Storytelling day camp July 7-11. The five-day intensive camp is open to area high schoolers devoted to producing multimedia stories.
Discover podcasting, TV, voice acting, news writing and strategic communication while learning the architecture to create memorable media projects for your portfolio. Whether it is a documentary, roundtable talk or fictional radio drama, campers can get creative and have fun.
The camp is offered free to 20 participants through a generous grant from the Alabama Press Association and the AUM Office of the Provost. June 20 is the registration deadline
AV Storytelling Camp includes:
- Breakfast, lunch, snacks
- Off-campus local media tours (transportation through Warhawk Transit)
- Guest speakers – local media professionals
- Mini mic
- T-shirt
- An audio and/or video clip to add to your portfolio
- The program will conclude on Friday with a reception of participants’ work.
Faculty teaching the camp:
Katherine Irwin is a senior lecturer in communication at AUM and will be leading the audio workshop. Her background includes working as a radio host and news director, a newspaper reporter and a graphic designer.
Kendra Love is a lecturer in communication at AUM and will be leading the video workshop. She is an award-winning journalist and strategic communicator with over 20 years of experience, including serving as a regional editor and publisher across Alabama and being published nationally.
Sam Wallace, Distinguished Senior Lecturer of Theatre for AUM, will be leading the voice acting workshop. He has worked in theatre in the River Region, both professional and community, for 25 years.
Support staff include University personnel and student workers who are all background checked by AUM’s Office of Human Resources.
