Do I qualify for undergraduate admission to AUM?
There are a number of ways to be admitted to AUM, whether you are a traditional high school student, looking to go back to college after several years or looking to transfer from another institution. No matter your circumstances, we want to make this as easy as possible.
Admissions Requirements
Freshmen
No ACT/SAT? No problem! Scholarships and admissions will be considered without a test score on file.
Transfer Students
Transfer students with fewer than 24 hours of course work must meet freshman admission requirements.

Submit Your ACT/SAT Scores
You can have the testing agency submit your test scores directly to AUM, or you can submit your scores yourself.

Have Your High School Send Your Official Transcript
Ask your high school guidance counselor to submit your official transcript to AUM. It’s ok if you haven’t graduated yet, though they will need to submit your official four-year transcript once you graduate. If you have attended any other colleges or universities, or earned dual credits, ask the registrar to send us those official transcripts to this address:

Commonly Asked Questions
The FAFSA opens on October 1 each year, and you should submit it as soon as possible after that date. AUM has a priority deadline of March 1, meaning the U.S. Department of Education’s Federal Processor must receive your completed FAFSA on or before March 1 to be considered for limited funding programs such as Federal Work-Study, the Federal Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grant (FSEOG), and the Alabama Student Assistance Program (ASAP) Grant. Keep in mind that electronic submissions can take 2 to 5 business days to reach the Federal Processor, so do not wait until the last moment.
Financial aid applications at AUM are reviewed on a first-come, first-served basis, so earlier submission puts you in a stronger position.
AUM currently offers ACT/SAT waivers, meaning standardized test scores are not required for admission. This makes AUM accessible to a wide range of applicants regardless of their testing background. However, if you do have strong SAT or ACT scores, submitting them can still strengthen your application, particularly when it comes to scholarship eligibility. AUM also offers ACT/SAT superscoring for those who have scores, meaning your best section scores across multiple test dates are combined for the highest possible composite.
For graduate programs, AUM also offers GMAT, GRE, and MAT waivers depending on the program. If you are an international student, proof of English language proficiency through TOEFL or IELTS is still required.

AUM operates a rolling admissions process, meaning you can apply at any time up to one year in advance and as close as one week before classes begin, though applying as early as possible is always recommended.
AUM offers undergraduate and graduate degree programs spanning five colleges: The College of Education, College of Business, College of Sciences, College of Nursing and Health Sciences, and the College of Liberal Arts and Social Sciences. At the undergraduate level, AUM offers more than 100 degrees and certificate programs, and at the graduate level, programs are available across 48 disciplines, including business, public administration, nursing, psychology, computer science, healthcare administration, and speech-language pathology.
AUM also offers certificate programs at both the undergraduate and graduate levels for students who want to build expertise in a specific area without pursuing a full degree. Programs are available on campus, fully online, or in a blended format.
AUM has a vibrant campus life with over 100 clubs and organizations spanning academic, cultural, social, and professional interests. These include honor societies, Greek life fraternities and sororities, academic department clubs, and student-led organizations such as the Student Government Association (SGA), the Campus Activities Board (CAB), and the Orange Jacket Society. There are also opportunities to participate in NCAA Division II athletics, intramural sports, fitness and wellness programs, and community-focused groups such as S.A.G.E. (Students Advocating for a Greener Environment).
AUM’s Office of Student Involvement and Leadership Programs supports all clubs and organizations with the belief that learning happens beyond the classroom. Getting involved in campus life at AUM helps build leadership skills, professional networks, and a genuine sense of community.
AUM operates on a rolling admissions basis, which gives you flexibility; you can apply up to one year in advance or as close as one week before classes start. However, there are important deadlines to keep in mind to maximize your opportunities. For freshman academic scholarships, the competitive scholarship deadline is March 1 (a separate scholarship application is required), while the non-competitive freshman scholarship deadline is June 1. For financial aid, the FAFSA priority deadline is March 1 each year.
How does AUM support first-generation college students in affording and navigating higher education?
AUM is deeply committed to making higher education accessible and affordable, particularly for first-generation college students. As one of the most affordable public universities in Alabama and named the Most Affordable University or College in Alabama, AUM provides more than $40 million in financial assistance to students annually through scholarships, grants, loans, and Federal Work-Study opportunities. Automatic scholarships are available for all qualifying freshmen and community college transfers, and there is no undergraduate application fee.
First-generation students are encouraged to complete the FAFSA as early as possible (opening October 1, priority deadline March 1) using AUM’s school code 008310. AUM’s Financial Aid team is available to walk you through every step of the funding process, from understanding your award letter to applying for grants and scholarships. AUM also offers a Bridge Program for students who may not fully meet all admission requirements, providing structured courses to prepare them for full admission.
