Bachelor of Science in Kinesiology — with a Concentration in Exercise Science
When thinking about a career, some people wonder, “How can I use my passion for fitness and health to make a living and help others?”
The answer might be found in an exercise science career. The field of human performance has grown over the last few decades and can be studied and applied in many different ways. Exercise physiologists, for example, analyze a patient’s medical history to determine the best possible exercise and fitness regimen. These allied-health professionals help patients recover from chronic diseases and improve cardiovascular function, body composition, and flexibility.
Some exercise physiologists work with both amateur and professional athletes who want to boost their performance. Other job titles could include wellness coordinator, corporate wellness director, athletic trainer, or coach.
AUM’s dynamic Exercise Science bachelor’s degree program is a firm foundation for a career focused on human performance. It also prepares you for graduate-level studies that could lead to careers in medicine, diet and nutrition, occupational or physical therapy, and other fields.
This degree program includes two tracks: the Physical Therapy track, for those who plan to seek advanced studies in physical therapy, and the Health Professions track. An internship is required for either track.
In addition to the Exercise Science program, the College of Education’s Kinesiology department houses the Physical Education program and the Sport Management program. The highly qualified Kinesiology faculty is well-known for their work on cutting-edge research and grants, being American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM) fellows, and holding ACSM and NSCA-CSCS certifications.

Kinesiology is a broad field dealing with how movement, function and performance affect overall health. Exercise science is a subfield of kinesiology that focuses on human response and adaptation to exercise and focuses on the underlying mechanisms that affect exercise.
In addition to the Exercise Science program, the College of Education’s Kinesiology department houses the Physical Education program and the Sport Management program.
