AUM welcomes new Assistant Vice Chancellor for Strategic Marketing and Communications

After a national search, Auburn University at Montgomery welcomes Ron A. Ramos as the new Assistant Vice Chancellor for Strategic Marketing and Communications/Chief Marketing and Communications Officer.

Ramos, who served as Assistant Vice President for Creative Services and Assistant Vice President for Strategic Communications and Marketing since 2015 at Kennesaw State University, will begin his AUM appointment on January 1, 2025.  The divisions of Marketing and Communications will merge into one department under his leadership.

“We are pleased to welcome Ron to our campus,” said Chancellor Carl A. Stockton.  Ron comes to AUM with more than 30 years of experience in marketing and communications, both in the private sectors and higher education institutions.  While we were fortunate to have an outstanding group of finalists for the position, Ron stood out based on the depth and breadth of his experience and his strategic vision for our university.”

At Kennesaw State University, Ramos successfully led the strategic communications and marketing strategy for the institution where he worked closely with key administrators and academic leaders. In his most recent position, Ramos was responsible for developing the University’s creative brand strategy, which included the overall look and feel of the university’s messaging.

“I am honored and excited to join Auburn University at Montgomery as the Assistant Vice Chancellor for Strategic Marketing and Communications. I look forward to collaborating with the talented team at AUM to further elevate its brand, enhance engagement, and share the remarkable stories of the Warhawk Nation,” Ramos said.

Ramos previously served as Executive Director of Marketing and Creative Services at the University of Akron where he was responsible for marketing, communications and providing oversight for social media. In addition, he worked closely with the Department of Enrollment Management where he developed and analyzed enrollment-related research and admission-trend data with a focus toward making informed decisions about short-term and long-term enrollment goals.

Prior to joining academia, Ramos worked in the private sector for nearly two decades.  He served as the Vice President, Chief Marketing Officer for Ogilvy in the Latin America division from 1993-2008.  Ogilvy & Mather is an award-winning, global marketing and advertising company.  Ramos oversaw the marketing strategy for all Latin American locations.  He also served for three years as the Chief Creative Officer for Saatchi & Saatchi in Latin America.

Ramos earned a Master of Business Administration from the University of Michigan’s Stephen M. Ross School of Business and an undergraduate degree in design strategies from the Parsons School of Design-The New School in New York City.
