Meet Sydney Tait

AUM was never my safe choice. It was my first choice. From the moment I stepped on campus, I saw a university that genuinely invests in its students and prepares them for life beyond graduation—not just a degree, but a future. That kind of intentionality is rare, and it’s exactly what I was looking for.

My path toward education started at home. My mom is an educator, and watching her pour into her students—sometimes tough, always genuine—showed me what real love for teaching looks like. I knew early on I wanted to carry that same legacy forward.

Mr. Thad Hoffman has supported me since my very first semester as a freshman. He’s shown up for me consistently, encouraging me every step of the way. That kind of steady presence has meant more to my growth than I can fully put into words.

I knew I was exactly where I belonged once I entered my major-specific courses and began field experience. On the first day of my internship, professors and supervisors sat us down and offered words of wisdom that made it clear how much they genuinely cared—not just about our success, but about us as people.

Being named a Deichelmann Scholarship recipient is one of my proudest accomplishments. Beyond the classroom, I’ve poured myself into leadership—serving as President of The Influence AUM, Chapter President of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc., and staying active through the Honors Program, Black Student Union, and Delight Ministries.

Balancing that level of involvement with academics hasn’t always been easy. But AUM’s faculty and staff have helped me find that balance, holding me accountable while offering grace when I needed it most.

My goals stretch far beyond graduation. I plan to earn my master’s at AUM while teaching, then pursue instructional leadership, an education specialist degree, and eventually a doctorate—with my sights set on becoming a superintendent.
