Test Score Requirements

The minimum scores for English Proficiency Tests are listed below. Submit only one. All scores should be sent directly by the testing agency to Auburn University at Montgomery (AUM).

English Proficiency Requirements

  • TOEFL (AUM Institutional Code: 1036): Paper-based: 500; Internet-based: 61.
  • IELTS: 5.5.
  • Cambridge English Exams (Preliminary, First, Advanced, Proficient, Business Preliminary, Business Vantage, and Business Higher): CEFR Level B2
  • Duolingo (minimum 100)
  • Pearson Test of English (PTE): 44
  • ACT (AUM Institutional Code: 0057): The minimum acceptable ACT composite score is 18 with a sub-score of 18 on the English section.
  • SAT (AUM Institutional Code: 1036): The minimum SAT combined score (Critical Reading and Critical Math only) is 860 with a sub-score of 450 on the Critical Reading section.
  • ​Proof of Completion of AUM’s Intensive English Program, AUGlobal’s GLOB 0310, or ELS Language Centers’ Level 112 Intensive English Program may be submitted in place of an English Proficiency Test.
  • International Test of English Proficiency (iTEP). The minimum score for admission is 3.7. The test results must not be more than 2 years old.
  • A score of 3 or higher on the English Language and Composition Advance Placement® Exam or the English Literature and Composition Advanced Placement® Exam.
  • A score of 4 or higher on the International Baccalaureate® English A Literature or English A Language and Literature Standard Level or Higher Level Exam.
