Since its inception in 1999, the Auburn University at Montgomery Faculty Development Institute (FDI) has provided professional development activities for full-time faculty on effectively and efficiently integrating technology into their teaching.
We developed the online teaching certification program to provide robust training opportunities for faculty members who were interested in teaching online courses. We require certification to teach online and hybrid courses at AUM. More than 265 faculty have qualified for online teaching certification. The requirements of the program are:
Required Courses: 1. FDI 1000: Building Quality Online Courses 2. FDI 2000: Teaching Quality Online Courses
Once you have completed the requirements for certification, you will receive a certificate of completion along with a $300 technology allowance which can be used to purchase software or hardware to assist you in teaching online and hybrid courses.
Initial online teaching certification is good for three years. Nine credit hours must be taken within the three year period to remain certified to teach online. Should your certification lapse, you must take 12 credit hours in order to regain certification.
If you have questions about the FDI or about online teaching certification, please call Dr. Georgianna Laws, Director, Office of Distance Education, 334- 399-8681 or email [email protected].
