Dr. Richard Fording, University of AL, Dept of Political Science
Richard Fording is the Marilyn Williams Elmore and John Durr Elmore Endowed Professor in the political science department at UA. His book, co-authored with Sandy Schram and Joe Soss, Disciplining the Poor: Neoliberalism and the Persistent Power of Race (2011) published by the University of Chicago Press recently won the Aaron Wildavsky Enduring Contribution Award from the Public Policy Section of the American Political Science Association. This award recognizes scholarship that continues to influence the field many years after its publication. More recently, Dr. Fording completed research on SNAP, which examines the reasons why SNAP has expanded so much despite generally negative attitudes toward “welfare.”
