Botany and Photography Workshop 2024
For rising 9-12 grade high schoolers

Date: July 22-26, 2024, from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
Capacity: 20 high school participants on a first-come/first-serve basis.
Cost: FREE to participants – Made possible by a generous grant from the Alabama State Council on the Arts.

Workshop includes:
- Students will learn about British photographer Anna Atkins and the first book illustrated with photographs of plant life.
- Participants will make and learn about the science behind cyanotypes and also learn about contemporary tools for photographing and cataloging plant life.
- Selections of student work will be displayed in the exhibition cases outside of AUM’s Cason McDermott Art Gallery from August 19 – September 6.
- All summer 2024 faculty are professionals who are employed in their field. Support staff will range from University personnel to student workers who are all background checked by AUM’s Office of Human Resources.
