Collaborative teaching, sometimes called cooperative teaching or team teaching, involves educators working in tandem to lead, instruct and mentor groups of students. The Special Education departmentwithin the AUM College of Education offers an alternative Collaborative Teacher master’s degree program for grades 6-12. This program is designed for students who have not earned an undergraduate education degree or teacher certification.

Teaching special education requires a person with a special set of teaching skills and knowledge, in addition to qualities such as compassion, humor, creativity and patience. Through coursework and laboratory experiences, AUM College of Education will help guide you to become a successful, competent, committed, reflective special educator. An internship is required.
