Department Services and Information
To maintain a campus that is safe and secure, the AUM Police Department is available 24 hours a day at (334) 244-3424. Our offices are located at 287 Taylor Center. We provide a number of services to the campus community and help sustain a safe environment to live, work, and learn.
Services
Safety escorts are available to members of the campus community 24-hours a day, seven days a week, for onsite locations. You may request a safety escort by calling (334) 244-3424 or by stopping by the AUM Police Department service desk and a Police Officer or Security Monitor will provide the service. The AUMPD does not provide escorts to locations off campus, but we can request that the Local Law Enforcement Agency meet you at your destination.
The AUM Police Department is empowered to monitor and enforce traffic and parking regulations. Our goal is to provide you with safe and reliable access to campus. We are dedicated to maintaining accessible, attractive, and safe parking facilities.
Our objective is to manage parking resources efficiently, emphasizing customer service, so that students, faculty, staff and visitors are able to park without difficulty and lawfully.
Follow the below traffic guidelines when operating a motor vehicle on AUM property:
Traffic Violations and Penalties
Moving traffic violation or criminal citations are adjudicated through the appropriate municipal, circuit, or district court.
Acquiring a Parking Permit Tag
All cars on campus are required to display the appropriate parking permit. See AUM’s Parking Policy for more information.
Parking Fines
Pay fines for parking violations in person at the AUMPD Service desk, 24-hours a day.
The fine for parking illegally in reserved parking spaces is listed below.
While AUM remains a safe place, recent events on campuses in our Nation remind us of the continued need to be aware of our surroundings and how we can protect ourselves. Each seminar will provide information on general safety tips, personal safety strategies, self-defense tips, and what a person should do if they observe someone in trouble.
We especially want students to be mindful of their environment when they are out late studying and moving around campus or throughout our city. We offer these seminars to share tips and remind participants of the resources AUM provides and what each individual can do to enhance safety.
For more information about a seminar or to request a seminar for your group, please contact the AUMPD at (334) 244-3424.
Safety Seminars Offered:
Many events, both large and small, occur on the AUM campus. Departments on campus coordinate with AUMPD for safety and traffic control during events. Scheduling event security will in no way guarantee space availability or represents approval for the event. All inquiries into space and event approval should be made with the Conference and Campus Services Department.
Scheduling Guidelines
AUMPD maintains the official “Lost and Found” for AUM. We make every effort to identify the owner of the property and see that it makes it back to them. Please turn in lost or found property to the Police Department at any time. The retention period and manner of disposal depends on the item. But most fall into the following categories:
All unclaimed money goes into the AUM Police Department’s General Fund.
If you have a flat tire or your vehicle battery has died, call the AUMPD at (334) 244-3424 for assistance. Be prepared to answer a few questions such as, where you are calling from, what type of vehicle do you have, and where you would like the officer to meet you to assist you.
Safety begins with your equipment. Some basic precautions and attention to details can help prevent injuries both to yourself and the people around you.
The AUMPD provides limited vehicle assistance as a courtesy service to the campus community based on the terms and conditions listed below for the services listed:
The AUMPD does not provide assistance for unlocking vehicles, but we can contact a locksmith service for you.
