AUM, Town of Pike Road partner to strengthen customer service at local businesses

Auburn University at Montgomery's Director of Continuing Education Neal Kelley speaks at Town of Pike Road Business Association quarterly Lunch & Learn

Auburn University at Montgomery’s Office of Continuing Education and Community Engagement is expanding its community outreach efforts through a partnership with the Town of Pike Road to launch a new training program designed to help local businesses enhance customer service and create positive experiences for customers.

The Blue Ribbon Customer Service Program will provide participating businesses with practical training focused on building consistent service values, skills and standards. Building on its experience providing customized training for businesses and organizations, AUM’s Office of Continuing Education and Community Engagement will develop and deliver the program curriculum and instruction.

The partnership reflects AUM’s commitment to professional development and supporting communities throughout the River Region, said Neal Kelley, director of AUM’s Office of Continuing Education and Community Engagement. Kelley introduced the initiative during the Pike Road Business Association’s July 28 Lunch & Learn at Pike Road Town Hall.

“This program will give local businesses practical tools they can use to build stronger customer relationships and deliver consistently exceptional service,” Kelley said. “By helping businesses create a customer-first culture, we can support their long-term success while strengthening the Pike Road business community.”

The program represents the third phase of Pike Road IGNITE, the town’s economic development initiative supporting the growth and success of local businesses. The inaugural class, expected to begin this fall, will feature two half-day training sessions covering eight best practices and standards for exemplary customer service.

Participating businesses also may be eligible for recognition as a Blue Ribbon Customer Service Award winner.

The program builds on two previous Pike Road IGNITE initiatives: Employ-A-Patriot, which connects high school students with local businesses, and Best Management Practices for Businesses, which encourages clear communication between businesses and the town.

Pike Road Mayor Gordon Stone said the program reflects the town’s commitment to maintaining a welcoming business environment and strong sense of community.

“It is a unique program that the Town of Pike Road has put together,” Stone said. “It helps further that hometown culture that we’re so pleased to have in Pike Road, where people who work here and people who shop here feel the comfort and warmth of great customer service.”
