AUM Cheerleading earns first trip to nationals

Auburn University at Montgomery’s cheerleading team will head to the National Cheerleaders Association College Nationals for the first time in school history.

The event will be held April 8-12 in Daytona Beach, Fla. The team, along with mascot Curtiss the Warhawk, recently competed in the NCA College Nationals at the University of Louisville. Curtiss received the Most Improved Award among college mascots, while the AUM cheerleading team was named the most improved out of 26 teams and earned third place in its division (Large Open Co-ed) for its rally routine.

The team also earned superior ribbons – the highest rating awarded – during evaluations. AUM’s team was one of seven from the NCA College Nationals to earn a “silver paid bid” to the 2020 NCA championship cheer camp.

Warhawk Spotlight: Summer research program puts Griffin on path to professional success

Senior Antionette Griffin was one of six students selected for the competitive Mellon Summer Curatorial Research Program offered by the University of Virginia’s Fralin Museum of Art and Kluge-Ruhe Aboriginal Art Collection. Griffin, who is majoring in sociology and anthropology and pursuing a certification in museum studies, served as an assistant curator for the nation’s only exhibit of indigenous Aboriginal art.

Wellness Center challenges students and faculty/staff to get fit!

The Warhawk and Workplace Wellness Challenges will be starting September 2 and running through October 14! During this six-week challenge for all AUM students, faculty, and staff, fees will be waived for participants who are not already Wellness Center members.

With teams of two, you can participate in Wellness Center Challenge events, attend group fitness classes, and complete a simple self-monitored exercise routine to gain points. At the end of six weeks, the top three teams with the most points will be awarded prizes.

Registration for the Challenge is open August 19–30 online. Only one team member needs to register!

Move-in volunteers needed

Volunteers will receive a free lunch and a gift identifying them as an AUM Housing volunteer. If you or your organization is interested in participating, please register through the appropriate link below. If you have any questions, please email Housing and Residence Life or call 334-244-3296.
