2016 Winners Alumni Association Graduate Merit Scholarships

The Auburn University at Montgomery Alumni Association recently awarded its annual Graduate Study Merit Scholarships to six outstanding AUM students. These scholarships are awarded annually to deserving graduate students at AUM. The scholarships require recipients maintain a GPA of 3.4 or higher, enroll in and complete nine hours each semester, and be continuously enrolled for each semester covered by the award.

The $1,000 scholarships, funded by alumni memberships, were awarded by the AUM Alumni Board of Directors to Holly Clarke, Tracy Selmon, Jeremy Jeffcoat, Rebekah Seay, Ramona Howard and Christina Ricks.

Clarke, a former student-athlete originally from England, earned a Bachelor of Science in Exercise Science with a concentration in Kinesiology from Auburn University at Montgomery and is working towards a master’s degree in the same area. Clarke is a past recipient of the Chancellor’s Scholar award for the College of Education. She currently works as a Graduate Teaching Assistant in the kinesiology department at AUM and expects to complete her graduate degree in 2017.

Selmon earned a Bachelor of Science in Psychology at AUM and is pursuing a Master of Psychology. She is a current member of Phi Kappa Phi honor society and is a past recipient of the psychology department’s Student of the Year award. She volunteers for the North Montgomery Volunteer Fire Department and the Community Emergency Response Team. Upon completion of her master’s degree, Selmon plans to advance her current career and begin a doctorate program in clinical psychology. Her long-term goal is to become a licensed clinical psychologist.

Jeffcoat earned a Bachelor of Science in Political Science from Troy University and is currently pursuing a Master of Liberal Arts in History at AUM. After a 20 year career in broadcasting, he made the decision to resume his studies to obtain a degree in the teaching field. His goal is to teach history at the community college level and to contribute to the field through writing and research.

Seay is pursuing a Master of Science in Exercise Science with a concentration in Kinesiology at AUM. She earned a Bachelor of Science in Fitness, Conditioning and Performance from Auburn University. Seay is an active volunteer in several health and wellness programs on campus and in the community. Upon completion of her master’s degree, Seay plans to pursue a career as a college professor.

Howard is currently pursuing an Education Specialist degree. A two time graduate of AUM, Howard earned a Bachelor of Science in Justice and Public Safety with a concentration in Juvenile Justice and a Master of Education in Collaborative Special Education. She also earned a master’s degree in School Counseling from Alabama State University. Howard has worked in k-12 education for seventeen years and is working towards becoming a licensed counselor.

Ricks is currently pursuing an Education Specialist degree in Instructional Technology at AUM. She earned a Bachelor of Science in Biology and a Master of Science in Secondary Education from Samford University. Ricks is an elementary science teacher at Bayside Academy in Daphne, AL and has received national recognition from the National Science Teachers Association for her innovative and creative approach to teaching.
