Canvas Selection Process

In the Spring of 2023, following a survey of faculty and students about their experiences with Ultra, the Office of Distance Education and Faculty Development requested that AUM leadership explore learning management system options. In response, the Provost appointed a 15-member Task Force to research, review, and make recommendations. That process led to the recommendation to move to the Canvas LMS.

FAQ

  • The most recent version will be migrated (16-week version & 8-week versions)
  • If there are multiple sections, then one course per instructor (in collaboration with your instructional designer)
  • Older versions (back to 2017) will be archived from Blackboard, but not automatically migrated into Canvas
  • After initial migration is complete, Instructors can request migration of older course
  • Instructors will gain access to Canvas during training
  • All instructors, adjuncts, and staff must receive FDI_Canvas training before receiving access to Canvas
  • Exceptions to the above must be requested by Department Chairs/Directors or Deans
  • All Instructors teaching online must receive and maintain Online Certification, which consists of:
    • Completion of the FDI Canvas course
    • 9 hours of FDI sponsored training in 3 years
      • Instructors will receive existing credit for all FDI sponsored training from 2020 forward.
  • Your Instructional Designers are personally migrating and cleaning up your courses.  However, there may be some minor additional work you need to complete
    • You will be notified when your course is fully migrated.
    • The notification will include a list of items you should check and/or complete.
    • As soon as you are notified (and you have completed FDI Canvas training), open your course, review it and make whatever changes are needed.
