New Scholarship for AUM Students
Troy and Mary Burrus establish need-based scholarship for students enrolled in any program at Auburn University at Montgomery.
Auburn Montgomery/Montgomery, Ala. (Feb. 27, 2018) — Troy Burrus ’88 and Mary Burrus ’87 ’90 have established the Robert H. and Helen E. Mueller Endowed Scholarship at Auburn University at Montgomery. This scholarship is for students enrolled in any program at AUM who have a minimum GPA of 2.5 on a 4.0 scale.
Troy and Mary established this scholarship to remember and honor Troy’s grandparents, Robert and Helen Mueller. Robert and Helen Mueller were both born in 1922. Robert in Grain Valley, Missouri and Helen in Lee’s Summit, Missouri. Robert was a WWII veteran who served in the US Navy. After the war, he went to work for AT&T. Helen worked for Farmers Insurance for thirty years. Both loved to travel. They traveled throughout North America, Europe and Africa. Neither of them attended college; however, they were instrumental in sending their son and grandson to college. Their grandson, Troy Burrus graduated from AUM in 1988. Robert passed away in 2015 and Helen passed away in 2017. This scholarship was established by Troy and Mary Burrus to honor them for all they did to help him achieve his college degree and to help others achieve a college degree.
Troy and Mary met as students at Auburn Montgomery and have been married for over 27 years. This is the second endowed scholarship they have established, the first being the TROY AND MARY STONAKER BURRUS ENDOWED SCHOLARSHIP. They currently live in Seattle, Washington where Troy is Assistant Special Agent in Charge of the Seattle, Washington office of the Internal Revenue Service and Mary works for CACI as a Leadership and Performance Coach for Puget Sound Naval Shipyard.
“Troy and Mary Burrus are great examples of AUM alumni who have chosen to help others achieve their dream of a college education and it has been a privilege to have worked with them to establish this endowment,” said Martie McEnerney, Senior Development Officer.
Annual Scholarship levels are established by the Auburn University Foundation. The minimum named annual scholarship is $1,000, but the scholarship can be at any level above that.
