Original “Shark Tank” panelist Kevin Harrington, whose business ventures have generated more than $5 billion in sales, shared his insights on entrepreneurship and the evolving digital marketing landscape at last Thursday’s kickoff for the 2020 AUM Chancellor’s Business Breakfast Series.

Speaking to a capacity crowd at Wynlakes Golf and Country Club, Harrington told aspiring entrepreneurs that resilience – and the ability to learn from setbacks – often holds the key to success. “It’s not all rosy,” he said. “In the life of an entrepreneur, you’re going to have disruption.”

City of Montgomery Mayor Steven Reed will be the keynote speaker for the second Business Breakfast event on Tuesday, March 3, at 7:15 a.m. at the RSA Activity Center. Mayor Reed will discuss his first 100 days in office, as well as his vision for business development.

Auburn University at Montgomery and Chattahoochee Valley State Community College recently finalized a partnership that will create scholarship opportunities and four-year degree pathways for transfer students from the Phenix City, Ala., campus.

Through a concurrent enrollment agreement, AUM will also provide an unlimited number of transfer scholarships to CVCC students to complete their associate in arts or associate in science degrees and earn admittance to AUM by August 1 each year. Transfer students with 3.0 GPAs and above will be eligible to receive annual scholarship support ranging from $1,000 to $2,500.

AUM will also award one Presidential Scholarship each year to a CVCC transfer student with a GPA of 3.5 or higher. For students enrolled at CVCC and AUM, the partnership offers reciprocal privileges for use of the AUM Library and Wellness Center.

AUM Director of Athletics Jessie Rosa recently named Julianne Herrity as the new head coach of the women’s soccer program. Herrity previously served as an assistant coach at NCAA Division II power Carson-Newman University. A native of Donegal, Ireland, Herrity helped Carson-Newman to a 46-11-3 record over the last three years, including a 25-3-2 mark in South Atlantic Conference play.

Graduate students – apply for the Alumni Association scholarship today!

The AUM Alumni Association is accepting applications for its 2020-2021 Graduate Study Merit Scholarships through March 1. To be eligible for the scholarship, students must be fully admitted to an AUM graduate program, must have completed at least nine hours of graduate study, and have a current GPA of 3.4 or higher on a 4.0 scale.

A completed application needs to include, among other things, two letters of support – preferably from AUM faculty or staff­, a 250-word essay on career objectives, and a current resume. Applicants will be notified of their award status by mail.
