Holiday reminder: ‘Occasional meals’ for student-athletes require approval

As the holiday season approaches with its spirit of giving, the Department of Athletics would like to share a new guideline that relates to extra benefits and student-athletes known as an “occasional meal.”

AUM faculty and staff members are permitted to provide an occasional meal to a student-athlete on an infrequent basis or for a special occasion within the locale of the institution (at their home, on campus, or in the community) with prior approval.

If any AUM faculty or staff member is planning to invite a student-athlete and/or a team to their home this holiday for a meal, please be aware that student-athletes must receive prior approval to attend. To receive approval, the faculty/staff member must contact the head coach, complete a request form and attendee list, and then submit the form and list for approval.

NCAA Awards and Benefits legislation requires AUM to monitor occasional meals and to comply with NCAA legislation.

For information, contact Andree Houston at [email protected] or 334-244-3152.
