Johnson named Section 504 Compliance Officer
AUM has designated Library Dean Phill Johnson its new Section 504 Compliance Officer. In this role, he will serve as a resource in helping AUM provide appropriate academic accommodations to students with disabilities.
Johnson also will work with the Center for Disability Services and the Office of the Provost to advise students, employees and third parties of the requirements of federal and university policy. He will also work to resolve issues regarding accommodations for students.
In addition, Johnson will serve as a resource for students with disabilities who are concerned about receiving appropriate modifications or discriminatory treatment.
Johnson, a doctor of law, steps into the position that was held by Marc Hall, a doctor of law in the Department of Business Administration.
Simmons’ Oxford paper accepted for publication
A paper analyzing historical research on the prophecies of Christ written by Dr. Michael B.
Simmons, distinguished research professor in the Department of History and World Languages and Cultures, has been anonymously peer-reviewed by experts in the field and accepted for publication.
Exegesis and Hermeneutics in Eusebius of Caesarea’s Theophany (Book IV): The Contemporary Fulfillment of Jesus’ Prophecies will be published next year in Studia Patristica, a book series published by Peeters Press in Leuven, Belgium. The Theophany was the last apology written about A.D. 337 by Eusebius, the bishop of Caesarea and the Father of Church History.
Simmons read the paper at the XVII International Patristics Conference held at the University of Oxford in August 2015.
In his paper, Simmons, who refers to Adolph Gressmann’s 1903 German edition and the 1743 English translation by Samuel Lee, the Regius Professor of Hebrew at Cambridge, analyzes fragments of the original Greek text and compares them philologically with the Syriac translation of A.D. 411 and parallel texts from earlier works.
Simmons’ paper concludes that the 165 scriptural citations in Book IV are the result of Eusebius’ reading of Christ’s prophecies in conjunction with the new Christian interpretation of salvation history made possible by the Constantinian Age.
Don’t forget! AUM goes tobacco free June 1
AUM takes Warhawk wellness seriously. Effective June 1, 2016, AUM will join more than 1,000 other colleges and universities by becoming a smoke-free, tobacco-free campus. AUM is committed to providing a healthier and cleaner campus community for our students, employees and visitors.

Signing ceremony with Wallace Community College Selma Wednesday
Faculty, staff and students are invited on May 25 at 10 a.m. to join AUM and Wallace Community College Selma for the signing of an official agreement between the two institutions.
Under the agreement, AUM faculty and advisors will be able to connect to WCCS student advisors for the benefit of students. AUM faculty also will guest lecture at WCCS.
WCCS students transferring to AUM will also be eligible for scholarships.
The signing ceremony will take place at the Wallace Community College Selma campus: 3000 Earl Goodwin Parkway, Selma, AL 36703.

Outreach to host third Educational Leaders Conference
Outreach at Auburn University at Montgomery on June 7 will host the third annual Educational Leaders Conference for educational leaders from across the state.
The conference provides K-12 principals and assistant principals with resources, expertise and tools that can be implemented in schools for great results. Also, the networking lunch provides principals and local business leaders the opportunity to collaborate.
The keynote on 21st century learning will be delivered by Stephan Turnipseed, an educational thought leader, strategist and hands-on learning proponent who is passionate about inspiring children through education.
Breakout topics will include team building, community involvement and support, ensuring teacher effectiveness, project-based learning, expectations from EDTPA, and neuromotor connections to education.

Alumni invited to tour Hyundai plant, enjoy free lunch at AUM
Alumni are invited for a private AUM alumni tour of Hyundai Motor Manufacturing Alabama that includes the opportunity to observe the building of more than 1,500 Hyundai cars each day. A tour guide will drive attendees though the manufacturing plant in an open-air tram and explain the many steps and innovative technologies involved in making a car.
The tour begins at noon and will last about one hour. The tour group will meet in Taylor Center 222 before boarding the Warhawk transit, departing campus promptly at 11:15 a.m.

‘Between the Lines: Making Sense of Abstraction’
“Between the Line: Making Sense of Abstraction,” a student-curated exhibition sponsored by the Department of Fine Arts, will run through Aug. 15 in the Goodwyn Gallery.
“Between the Lines” includes artworks by Italian, Dutch, American, Japanese, Spanish, and Greek modern printmakers. Each uses the language of abstraction to express a particular artistic vision.
From minimalist compositions that explore color, to optical art, or simplified arrangements of forms, the exhibit teases out the many meanings of abstraction globally from 1967–1977.
The exhibit also includes child-friendly gallery interactives.
