AUM recognized as Military Spouse Friendly School

Auburn University at Montgomery has been recognized as a university where military spouses can thrive in pursuit of a college degree.

AUM was named to the 2021-2022 Military Spouse Friendly School® list compiled by Viqtory.

Institutions earning the designation were evaluated using public data sources and responses from a proprietary survey. More than 1,200 schools participated in the 2021-2022 survey, with 747 schools earning the designation as a Military Friendly School.

The Military Spouse Friendly survey measured institutions’ abilities to meet thresholds for student retention, graduation, job placement, loan repayment, and persistence toward degrees, among other factors.

“We are proud that AUM has become a school of choice for active duty military, veterans, spouses and dependents,” AUM Chancellor Carl A. Stockton said. “The needs of military members, spouses and their children are often unique, and we have been very diligent in developing resources that will position them for success at AUM.”

In February, AUM earned “Silver Status” in Viqtory’s 2021-2022 ranking of “Military Friendly Schools,” the highest level among the state’s small universities. It marked the fourth consecutive year that AUM has been recognized in the survey.

In 2020, AUM dedicated a new Veteran & Military Resource Center that offers study space and support staff to help meet the needs of military and veteran students. The university also features an active Student Veterans of America chapter and offers the Military and Family Scholarship for military personnel and dependents. Scholarship recipients save 15 percent on undergraduate tuition and 35 percent on graduate school tuition.

Of AUM’s 5,200 students enrolled in Fall 2020, approximately 800 have connections to the military (active duty, veterans, spouses, children).
