Auburn University at Montgomery tops Montgomery Advertiser Readers’ Choice Awards poll

Voters in the Montgomery Advertiser’s 2020 Readers’ Choice Awards selected Auburn University at Montgomery as the top university in Alabama’s River Region for the third consecutive year.

More than 100,000 votes are cast in the poll, which identifies the top schools, businesses and service providers in Montgomery’s tri-county area. The results were published in the July 26 edition of the Advertiser.

“We pride ourselves on being a good neighbor and trusted community partner,” AUM Chancellor Carl A. Stockton said. “The results of this poll indicate that members of our community believe we are delivering on our promise of helping graduates of local high schools and community colleges realize their educational and professional aspirations.”

AUM’s commitment to community is reflected by its offer of an all-time high of $11 million in scholarships and student support in 2020. Recent initiatives include the Outstanding Scholars Award, which provides $40,000 over four years to students who have a minimum grade point average of 3.0 along with a 30 ACT or 1400 SAT score. Other initiatives include the Opportunity Scholarship, Transfer Scholarship and Military & Dependent Scholarship.

Beyond its teaching and research, AUM has fostered connectivity with the River Region community through outreach and philanthropy. Partnerships and programs include a recent provision of campus housing space to Baptist Health staff members treating COVID-19 patients, as well as holiday toy drives and the annual Martin Luther King Jr. Legacy Breakfast.
