Athletics names new women’s basketball head coach

Page has averaged better than 18 wins per season and has won 20 or more contests on four occasions during his 12-year head coaching tenure. He was named the 2009-10 SAC Coach of the Year after his squad went 21-9 overall and 12-4 in conference play, earning a NCAA Tournament berth in the process.

The Wolves have made the SAC Tournament in each of his 10 seasons, reaching the semifinals on seven occasions, while making the finals twice. The Wolves also won the 2014-15 SAC Tournament, finishing 21-11 overall to earn Page’s second NCAA Tournament berth.

During his time at Newberry Page coached 11 All-SAC First-Team members, seven All-SAC Second-Team members, three WBCA Honorable Mention All-America honorees and two First-Team CoSIDA Academic All-Americans. He also had seven players named to the All-NCAA Southeast Region team, five players named to the SAC All-Freshman team and four players named to the Daktronics First-Team All-Southeast Region.

Prior to his time with Newberry Page was the head coach of Brescia University, an NAIA institution in Owensboro, Ky. During his time at Brescia, Page was named the NAIA Division I Women’s Independent Coach of the Year twice, while winning the NAIA DI Independent Conference Championship in 2006-07 and 2007-08.

In his first season the Bearcats upset top-seeded Lee University in the opening round of the NAIA National Tournament to advance to the Sweet Sixteen. The win was the first win by a No. 8 seed over a top seed in NAIA Tournament history.

Page began his collegiate career in the United States as an assistant coach with Boise State University in 2001. He then spent four seasons at Troy University as an assistant before becoming the head coach at Brescia in 2006. During his five years at the NCAA Division I level, Page recruited the Conference Freshmen of the Year three times and coached nine All-Conference representatives.

Before his coaching career in the United States, Page spent time coaching at various levels in his native Australia. He holds an Australian National Coach Accreditation Scheme level two and was a Head Coach in the Australian Basketball Association (ABA) from 1994 to 2001.

As an ABA head coach, Page’s teams had three final four appearances and a conference championship. He also coached numerous junior representative teams at the local, regional, state and national levels dating back to 1985, including a National Championship win with the Queensland Under-20 Women’s team in 1995.
Page, who hails from Maroochydore, Queensland, Australia, is married to the former Susan Sessions from Birmingham, Ala., and has three daughters, Amy, Hadlee and Hannah, and a son, Macauley.
