Why AUM?

At Auburn University at Montgomery (AUM), the Master of Science (MS) program in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology offers an in-depth exploration of biological processes at the molecular level. Our Department of Chemistry and Department of Biology and Environmental Science have developed the Master of Science in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology degree program, the only one of its kind in the Montgomery, Alabama area.

Rooted in core courses covering biochemistry, molecular biology, genetics, and cell biology, students also engage in practical laboratory sessions, mastering techniques like DNA sequencing and protein purification. Under the mentorship of faculty, students undertake research projects, potentially leading to publications or conference presentations. Graduates emerge prepared for varied career paths in academia, industry, government, and healthcare, serving as research scientists, laboratory technicians, biotechnologists, or educators.

Program Requirements?

No GRE is required. Academic criteria include:

  • Undergraduate GPA of 2.75 or higher (but strong in science courses)
  • Relevant coursework in Molecular Genetics/Biology, Cell Biology, Microbiology, and/or Statistics.
  • Undergraduate research experience is recommended but not required (it may overcome some GPA deficiencies).
  • Letters of recommendation are helpful, particularly if there are any deficiencies in the above requirements.
