Program Description
Whether you are an education professional or want to advance in a fast-paced, sports-related setting, AUM’s College of Education and its Kinesiology Department provides you with the opportunity to earn a Master of Education in Kinesiology. Depending on your career goals, you can select from specializations in Exercise Science, Physical Education (P-12), or Sport Management. Courses are designed to develop critical thinking and problem-solving skills, using both theory and practical application.
For those preparing for careers in human performance, training and conditioning, corporate fitness and wellness, the Exercise Science master’s degree is a dynamic and exciting program. It is an educationally recognized program (ERP) by the National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA) for leading to careers in athletic strength conditioning. The department houses two state-of-the-art Human Performance Laboratories that feature house metabolic cart systems, body composition technology, an endless pool and electromyography to study muscle physiology first-hand. An internship is required.

The Physical Education Teacher certification program prepares candidates to teach physical education in a P-12 setting. Candidates must meet AUM and Alabama Department of Education teacher certification requirements.

The Sport Management program at AUM will assist students in preparing for sport-related careers. A combination of coursework and business class work will develop the knowledge and skills necessary to enter the sport industry. The courses focus on the uniqueness of sports in areas such as marketing, facility management, risk management and legal issues, leadership, ethics, etc. An internship is required.
This program prepares students to enter the professional and/or amateur sport arena or to enhance their content knowledge to further their sport-related careers. An internship is required.
