Leuner elected to American Association of Colleges of Nursing Board of Directors

Auburn University at Montgomery (AUM) Dean of Nursing & Health Sciences Jean Leuner has been re-elected to serve on the American Association of Colleges of Nursing (AACN) Board of Directors and Nominating Committee.

Leuner will serve a second two-year term as secretary of the AACN, an academic organization representing more than 825 schools of nursing at public and private colleges and universities nationwide. The AACN establishes and assists schools in implementing quality standards for nursing education, influences the nursing profession to improve healthcare and promotes public support of professional nursing education, research and practice.

Before joining AUM, Leuner served as dean of the University of Central Florida’s College of Nursing from 2003 to 2015. She previously held academic leadership roles at the Medical University of South Carolina, the MGH Institute of Health Professions, and Saint Anselm College.

Leuner’s service has also included membership on the Winter Park Health Foundation Board of Trustees, the Franklin Pierce University Board of Trustees and membership in the State of Alabama Association of Colleges of Nursing. She is a past chapter president of Sigma Theta Tau International and former chair of the Florida Association of Colleges of Nursing.

Leuner earned her bachelor’s degree at Seton Hall University and her master’s and doctorate from Boston College.
