Mathew Ragland Associate Provost-Professor Dr. Matthew F. Ragland is currently serving AUM as Professor of Mathematics and Associate Provost for Graduate Studies and Faculty Services. He has served as Associate Provost since December 2011 after serving as Associate Dean of the now defunct School of Sciences for two years. Dr. Ragland has served in various acting roles over the years including four stints serving as Acting Dean for various AUM current and former colleges. He is currently serving as Acting Director of Sponsored Programs and Research and Acting Director of the Office of Institutional Effectiveness and Accreditation. Dr. Ragland also serves as the AUM liaison to the Alabama Commission on Higher Education and as the AUM liaison to the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges. He has spent his entire career at Auburn University at Montgomery beginning in 2005 as an Assistant Professor of Mathematics. While serving the former AUM School of Sciences, Dr. Ragland was recognized with the School of Sciences Research Award and the School of Sciences Teaching Award. He has taught nearly every mathematics class AUM has to offer from remedial mathematics classes up to graduate level course offerings. He has 28 professional publications with the majority of them focusing on the mathematical field of Group Theory, an area of mathematics with applications in cryptography, computer science, chemistry, and physics. Recently, he has served as the PI on an NSF grant partnering with Rice University studying alternative methods of teaching mathematics to students who are blind or have low-vision and also as the AUM-PI on two multi-university consortium NSF grants: NSF S-STEM and NSF LSAMP. The Associate Provost for Graduate Studies and Faculty Services oversees the Office of Sponsored Programs and Research and the Office of Institutional Effectiveness and Accreditation. Ragland received his B.S. in Mathematics from Morehead State University and his M.S. and Ph.D. in Mathematics from the University of Kentucky.
