I Am A Journalist Writing Contest

Have a chance to be published and win up to $300

Submission Deadline: Oct. 11, 2019

Enter the AUM Department of Communication and Theatre’s “I am a Journalist Writing Contest” to exercise your right to free speech. The competition is a great opportunity for students to learn and gain a deeper understanding of their rights under the First Amendment.

The “I am a Journalist Writing Content” is sponsored in cooperation with AUMnibus, the university’s student newspaper, and students in Dr. Eunyoung Kim’s COMM 3800 Public Relations I course to promote the First Amendment. Students developed the contest from a class assignment about Middle Tennessee State University’s “1 for All” campaign, a “national nonpartisan and nonprofit educational effort to build understanding and respect for the five freedoms of the First Amendment.”

The Department of Communication and Theatre will host information sessions and promotional events for the writing competition Sept. 30 – Oct. 3 in the Quad. Please send your contest entries to Morgan Thayer at vthayer@aum.edu or Eunyoung Kim at ekim2@aum.edu.

The competition’s three winning submissions will be published in AUMnibus and receive a gift card prize. First, second and third place winners in the writing competition also will be recognized at an award luncheon Oct. 30 in Taylor Center Room 222.
