Follow your S.T.E.M. Passion and Earn a Teaching Certificate!

Minor in Education
In-Class

If your degree focus is in one of the S.T.E.M. fields—science, computer science or mathematics—AUM provides an automatic scholarship to minor in Education and earn an Alabama teaching certificate. This unique program is called “AUMTeach.”

Graduates in STEM fields are a high priority for all employers but with a teaching certificate, you’ll have:

  • Access to a new job market, even if you don’t plan a long-term teaching career
  • A solid resume-builder to enhance your grad or professional school applications
  • A career back-up plan
  • An opportunity to teach for a year or two to save money for grad or professional school

The AUMTeach minor consists of eight classes. You’ll receive a $750 scholarship (on top of your existing AUM scholarship opportunities) to pay for the first two classes, which lets you kick off your future with less debt and more career flexibility.

Due to the fact that demand for teachers of S.T.E.M. subjects is high in Alabama, you can earn up to an additional $20,000 a year compared to those who teach other subject matter.

By minoring in Education through the AUMTeach program, you’ll have an opportunity to serve others, earn more money, owe less debt, and get a leg-up to attending a graduate or professional school, should you pursue that option.
